As small business specialists, we offer a holistic approach to assisting our clients in accumulating and retaining wealth by managing their tax responsibilities. From the inception of a business through exit planning, we work with small businesses and their owners to strategize cash flow management and profit generation. Specialists in income tax planning and preparation, the principals of the firm are former IRS employees. We offer accounting systems design including tools like QuickBooks, and have a QuickBooks Pro Adviser on staff. To meet our clients needs, we offer one-stop services including income tax planning and preparation plus payroll services, sales tax, personal property tax, and even the installation and maintenance of various types of retirement plans. Additional services include business valuation, forensic accounting services, and litigation support.
History
Established in 1986
Coet & Coet started as a one person, sole proprietorship in the home of John and Fran Coet. After three filing periods and progressive growth (the front storm door came off its hinges due to the business traffic), the Coets ventured into leased office space in Westminster, Colorado in 1988. Over the past 25 years, the practice has grown dramatically in employees and services provided. John was part-time with the business while working full-time at the Finance Center at Lowry Air Force Base, and became full-time with the practice in 1989. Ten years later, Cathie Asmus, EA, a DU graduate with a degree in accounting, joined the firm and is currently the Accounting Manager. A year later, Christine Johnson, EA, with twenty years of accounting and tax background expertise, came to work here and currently serves as Special Projects Manager. Paraprofessionals with the firm include Sherri Schalaman, Barbara Arnold and Barbara Grim.
Meet the Business Owner: Fran Coet
The 2000 SBA Accountant-Advocate for Colorado and Region VIII, Frances J. Coet, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Valuation Analyst, and Certified Financial Planner® Practitioner, has 30 years experience in accounting, tax preparation and tax planning for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and fiduciaries. A specialist in divorce taxation planning and cash flow, Fran has qualified as an expert witness regarding business valuations and income tax issues, and is a seminar leader on tax legislation, tax planning and record keeping for businesses. She has received two Certificate of Education Achievement Awards from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, one for Tax Counseling for Closely Held Businesses and the other for Business Valuation. Before opening her own accounting firm in 1986, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a taxpayer service specialist and classroom instructor, and at a local CPA firm.
